Creating a Subscription Product

You can create subscription-based course access by using the 3rd party app Recharge. Recharge is a subscription processing app available in the BigCommerce App Marketplace. Once added to your storefront, you can use Recharge to connect your payment gateway account, add products, and configure emails.  

 

BenchPrep has an existing relationship with Recharge and is happy to introduce you to their personnel.  You must form a contract with Recharge to use their service, and you are responsible for all fees and terms. Recharge provides implementation services, and can support you with any issues you may have.

 

Note: Recharge will require its own setup, and documentation on that process can be acquired from Recharge's implementation team.

How to Create a Subscription Product

  1. In BigCommerce, navigate to Products > Add
  2. Fill out the following information:
    • Product Name - this is visible to customers on your storefront
    • Product Type - indicate "Digital"
    • Default Price - indicate your base price (without discounts or other adjustments)
  3. Navigate to Custom Fields
  4. Create the following fields:
    • course_slug
      • for the value, enter the course slug (located in BluePrint > Course Properties and other avenues)
    • duration
      • for the value, enter the number of days that a user will have access to the course after purchase
      • do not include a unit like “days”
    • product_type
      • for the value, enter "subscription"
    • grace_period
      • for the value, enter the number of days you allow for payment issue resolution
  5. Save the product.
