A Learning Path is a collection of courses and/or resources designed to help learners achieve a new skill, earn a certification, master a subject, and more. It allows you to organize and customize the structure and sequence of learning materials, providing a clear and guided experience for learners.
Benefits of Using Learning Paths
Explore how Learning Paths support learners to mastery with a clear path to success.
Key benefits of Learning Paths for Admins include:
- Streamline Content Delivery: Easily organize and manage courses to create structured learning experiences.
- Support Organizational Goals: Align Learning Paths with certification programs, continuing education (CE), or skill development initiatives.
- Boost Engagement and Revenue: Course bundling increases the likelihood of learners enrolling in more courses, driving higher sales and course enrollment.
- Enhance Content Discovery: Help learners find relevant courses faster with curated learning pathways.
Key benefits of Learning Paths for Learners include:
- Guided Course Progression: Learners are provided the most efficient path to master skills or earn recognitions like certifications and badges.
- Simplified Decision-Making: By grouping related courses together, learning paths reduce the time and effort needed to choose which course to start next.
- Enhanced Motivation and Readiness: Structured learning increases completion rates and motivates continued learning.
There are two types of Learning Paths:
- Fixed - This type of Learning Path follows a specific order where learners must accomplish each learning item in that exact order. Content will be locked until the preceding content is completed. This type of path is useful when courses expand on concepts in lower level courses or when a specific skill level needs to be achieved before taking a particular course.
- Suggested - This type of Learning Path is still shown in a specific order, but learners can approach content in any order they choose. There is no locked content. This type of path can be used to group content around a similar subject or group courses that aren’t dependent on one another.
Courses within a Learning Path can also be set as electives, which are optional items that learners can complete. These do not need to be unlocked and do not count towards Learning Path progress. All resources are automatically set as electives if added to a Learning Path.
Set Up Process
Setting up Learning Paths involves BluePrint and Console applications:
- Make sure the Learning Paths feature access is enabled at the tenant or branch-level via Console. The feature access will be ON by default.
- Create a Learning Path in BluePrint.
- Once it is saved, you can configure how your Learning Path will be displayed in the Learning Hub on Console.
- Enroll learners in your Learning Path (e.g. via a Plan or Branch Plan) or make it discoverable on the Browse page in Learning Hub.
NOTE: Enrolling learners in a Learning Path does not automatically enroll them in the included courses unless the courses are included in the same Plan/Branch Plan. They will need to enroll in each individual course to access them.
To configure Learning Paths, you will need to be an admin or have a custom role assigned with the Create:Learning Paths, Read:Learning Paths, Update:Learning Paths, and Update:Learning Hub permissions.
