Importing a Structured Study Plan

Structured Study Plan can take a long time to create, but it's possible to speed up the process by assembling your plan in spreadsheets and uploading them through our CSV Importer tool. In this article, we'll cover how to do that.

NOTE: When creating spreadsheets, it's important to fill out information accurately. This article is split into two sections, Study Task Groups and Study Tasks. Be sure to read each section carefully before proceeding.

Before You Begin

Before importing the study tasks for your structured study plan, you will first need to establish an empty "Parent" Study Task that all of your imported study tasks will upload within as "Children" due to a quirk in the importing process. This "Parent" Study Task will be temporary and will need to be created as a study task (white folder icon), not as a study task group (black folder icon). To create the study task, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to your course in BluePrint, and click on Study Tasks on the left navigation bar.
  2. Type a name into the text box, and press Enter on your keyboard. In this example, we've named it "Study Task Shell," but you can name it anything you'd like. We recommend just keeping it simple.
  3. Click on Save.
  4. Publish Changes to your course.

After you import your study tasks to this Study Task Shell, they will need to be manually shifted over to your Study Tasks Groups. Then, the empty Study Task Shell can be deleted. The sections below will go more into this process.

Importing Study Tasks

To import your study tasks, follow the steps below. An import template can be downloaded here.

  1. Createnew spreadsheet (we recommend Google Sheets).
    • Set the following column headers:
      name parent_study_task_name task_item_type task_item_category_id task_item_ids
  2. Fill out the spreadsheet with the study tasks you'd like to import.
  3. Export the spreadsheet as a CSV.
  4. In BluePrint, navigate to Other Tools > Import Content.
  5. Upload your Study Tasks CSV under the "Study Tasks" section.
  6. Click on Import Content at the bottom of the page.

You have successfully imported your Study Tasks! It will take some time to process, and you can track the import from the Activity Log.

Study Task CSV Headers: A Breakdown

Here's a breakdown of what each column must include:

  1. name
    1. The Study Task name, as it will appear to the learner
  2. parent_study_task_name
    1. The name of the "Parent" Study Task you have already created (in our example it is "Study Task Shell")
  3. task_item_type
    1. Possible Inputs:
      1. lessons
      2. flash_cards
      3. practice_questions
      4. tests
  4. task_item_category_id
    1. Leave blank
  5. task_item_ids
    1. The IDs of lessons, flashcards, or practice questions that belong within the study task
    2. Must be separated by commas
    3. Task item ids can be found on the edit page of each study task item, or by exporting the relevant content to their own CSVs.

NOTE: There is currently no tool for importing study task groups. You will need to create a CSV and send it to your BenchPrep contact, who will import it for you.

Assigning Study Tasks to Study Task Groups

After importing your study tasks, you'll be able to see them from the Study Plan tab of your course. (Note: The "Study Task Shell" will no longer appear.)

From here, you'll need to create your Study Task Groups and then assign your imported study tasks to those groups. Follow the steps below:

  1. Type a name into the study task group text box, and press Enter on your keyboard. Repeat this for each study task group you need.
  2. Click on Save.
  3. Drag and drop your study tasks to the appropriate study task groups. Make sure they're nested underneath the groups. Click on Save.
  4. The "Study Task Shell" will now appear again and is no longer needed. Delete this study task by clicking on the pencil icon and then Delete.
  5. You've now completed setting up your study tasks and study task groups.
