Highlighting a Passage (Passage Reference Links)

Highlighting relevant passage portions to questions in BluePrint can be a daunting task, but can create a powerful structure to guide learners through a set of information in a constructive manner.

To begin, you’ll want to create “reference links” in your passage. These links will provide you information to help with your question prompts.

  1. Navigate to the passage you'd like to create a reference link for within BluePrint.
  2. Highlight the portion of the passage you’d like to link to.
  3. Click on the Templates drop-down menu, and select Reading Passage Reference. This will create a link inside of BluePrint for you to reference.
  4. Click on Save.

Similar to linking a passage, be sure to remember your passage ID or the name of the passage to ensure you’re linking the right passage to the next question.

Next, you’ll use this newly created link and apply it to your particular question.

  1. Navigate to the question you'd like to apply the passage reference link to.
  2. Enter the passage ID or passage name into the "Passage" field, and the passage should populate below. The portions with links will have a blue highlight.
  3. Select the highlight. The passage portion will turn yellow, and some code will populate under "Highlight Selector."
  4. Input or edit your question content and answer content as needed to relate to the highlighted passage.
  5. Click on Save.

If you’ve configured this properly, your passage should now appear above the question content along with your reference link highlighted in the passage.
