Content Localization

To take full advantage of BenchPrep's localization feature, you may want to offer your courses in multiple languages. Content localization is the ability for learners to view content in the language of their choosing.

Follow these steps to offer the same course content in multiple languages:

1. Create an individual course in BluePrint for each of the languages you want to offer this course in. Include the language in the name of the course so that each course name is unique.

2. Populate each course with content in the specific language. Since the course structure (lesson and question categorization, Study Tasks, etc.) will likely be the same across all languages, you can use the replicator cart or course cloning tools to replicate content from one course to another. After doing so, you can then change the names and copy within each content item to match the correct language.

Best Practices for Translation

In order to create a fully localized experience for your learners, ensure that you translate all of your content into the target language(s). There are content elements specific to digital media and the BenchPrep platform that may get overlooked during the translation process. Use the following list as a checklist to ensure you have translated all necessary content elements:

  • Category & Subcategory names (lessons, questions, etc.)
  • Study Task & Study Task Group names
  • Lesson content, including:
    • Titles
    • Copy
    • Videos and Closed Captioning files
    • Images, Image Captions, and Image Alt Text
  • Question content, including:
    • Copy
    • Answer Copy
    • Answer Rationales
  • Passages
  • Test content, including:
    • Test Names
    • Section Names
    • Test Instructions
    • Test Section Instructions
  • Flashcards
  • Milestone custom content
    • At this time, customizable milestone copy is not self-service yet; contact BenchPrep for assistance.
  • Assets
    • SCORM files
    • Other content, including Captivate/Storyline, HTML5, H5P, and related elements
  • Course description

In addition, consider tracking your content elements using external IDs or another method to ensure that your content appears in the correct place in BluePrint. This can also help you track which content elements are translations of one another.

If you are interested in providing your courses in languages other than English, but do not have translated content, BenchPrep may be able to connect you with a third-party translation service. Reach out to your BenchPrep contact for more information.
