If Assignments are enabled for your course, follow the steps below to utilize the Assignment feature.

Accessing and Using Assignments


To access available assignments, follow these steps: 
 

  1. Within the course, select the Assignments option on the left hand side of the menu.

  2. Select Start next to the available assignments you would like to work on.  The assignment type (Written Assignment or File Assignment) will be displayed above the assignment title.

    For Written Assignments follow these steps:

    1.  After reviewing the Overview and Instructions page, click on the Start button to begin writing your assignment. You will be presented with an Assignment Prompt

    2.  Select Collapse Question if you wish to minimize the Question.

    3. Begin typing your assignment in the text box at the bottom of the page.


Note: If the character limit is set, you will see a character count as well as a character maximum limit. If you exceed the character limit you will not be able to submit the assignment; the submission button will be grayed out.  Edit the text accordingly to reduce the character count.
 
For File Submission Assignments follow these steps:

1. Select Start next to the available File assignment you would like to work on.

2. After reviewing the Overview and Instructions page, click on the Choose File button to upload your file.

3. The selected file will display the name and format of the file after it has been chosen.


As you progress through the assignment experience, the following options are available:
 

  • Pause Assignment - Allows you to pause the assignment at any time, progress will be saved.
  • Save - Allows you to save the assignment, exit and return later.  After successfully saving the assignment the Save button will appear disabled. (Not applicable for File Submission).

 

Submitting Assignments for Feedback and Grade
 

Once you are ready to submit your assignment for feedback or a grade, follow these instructions:
 

  1. Select Submit For Feedback or Submit for Grade button on the bottom of the Assignment writing page.
  2. Check the box within the pop-up prompt and select the Submit for Feedback or the Submit for Grading button. 

    Submit For Feedback - If the option is enabled, you can submit your assignment for feedback (not for grading). There is no limit to the number of times you can submit an assignment for feedback. You can resume working on your assignment while submitting for feedback (creating a new version), however you cannot submit the assignment for another round of feedback while your assignment is under review. You must check the box for Submit Assignment for Feedback to activate.

    Submit for Grading - allows you to submit your assignment for a final score.  You will not be able to make changes or updates after this point. You must check the box for Submit for Grading to activate.


    NOTE: Submitting an assignment for grading is final.  Assignment graders will be notified of your submission.
  3. The Assignment dashboard will display the Submitted for Feedback or the  Submitted for Grading status for the assignment.


After submitting your assignment for feedback, you can start creating another version of your assignment by completing the following steps:

1. Select Resume next to the assignments submitted for feedback.


2. Continue working on the assignment.
3. Select Save or Pause Assignment. 

  • You are still able to submit a new version of your assignment for Grading if you choose to do so while your previous submission is awaiting feedback.

 

Reviewing Feedback and Grades

 

Once feedback or a grade has been provided, you will receive a notification email as well as an in-app message.

To access the feedback or grade, you can click on the link in the notification within your in-app message, or follow these steps:
 

  1. Select the Assignments option on the left-hand navigation menu.
  2. Select the Review button next to the assignment. 
  3. Select the Submission version you would like to review.
  4. Select the bubble icon on the right hand side of the screen to see any feedback left by the grader.  If the assignment was submitted for a grade you can Review the Overall Score as well as trait scores on the left-hand side. 
  5. After reviewing the feedback, you can continue to work on the assignment by selecting the Resume button.  

    NOTE: The Resume button will be disabled if the assignment was submitted for a grade.

 

Feedback and Grade updates


A user with the permission Access BluePrint and Manage Assignments will have the ability to update feedback or grade on submitted assignments. When that happens the learner will receive an in-app notification, as well as an email letting the learner know there was an update to the submitted assignment.  Access the Assignment module to see the updated feedback and/or score. 
 

Self Graded-Assignments
 

Self-graded assignments allow learners to submit assignments for self-grade.  To access available assignments, follow the steps found in the Accessing and Using Assignments section above.  When ready to submit:
 

  1. Select the Submit for Self-Grade button.
  2. Select the confirmation checkbox Submit Assignment for Self-Grading to submit.



    After submitting, you will be brought to the assignment screen to review your Assignment, Assignment prompt, Instructions and Rubric (if configured) and provide trait scores.  

    NOTE: The overall score is calculated as the sum of individual trait scores.

 

After submission, the grade can be viewed by selecting the Review button next to the appropriate assignment.
