Essay Grader Role

The Essay Grader role enables users to:

  • View all essay submissions within assigned Grader categories (if set)
  • Claim an essay for feedback or score

Claiming an Essay

To claim an essay available for feedback or score, follow these steps:

  1. In the Boost Dashboard, select the Essay Grading option on the left hand side navigation.
  2. In the Review Requests column, review the list of available essays and the following column headings:
    1. Essay Name - Name of the Essay as set in BluePrint
    2. Review ID - Unique ID that is created for each new submission by the student user
    3. Grading Category - Grading Category, if defined
    4. Submitted Date - Date user submitted essay for feedback or score
    5. Submitted for - Designates if the user submitted the essay for feedback or a score. NOTE: the user’s name will not be listed here to ensure essays remain anonymous. 
  3. Select the Essay you would like to claim to see the Essay details page. The following data points will appear:
    1. Essay Name -  Name of the Essay as set in BluePrint
    2. Submitted Date - Date user submitted essay for feedback or score
    3. Completed Date - This field will be blank until feedback or a score is successfully submitted back to the user
    4. Grading Categories - Grading Category, if defined
    5. State - state of the essay (requested, claimed)
    6. Grade - This will be blank until a final score is submitted back to the user
    7. Bottom of the page contains the following selections:
      1. Essay - the content the user submitted for review
      2. Instructions
      3. Prompt
      4. Rubric - specified criteria to grade against 
      5. Feedback
  4. Click the Claim button in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
  5. A status message will notify you that the essay has been successfully claimed.
    1. You can select Remove Claim to unclaim an essay and make it available to be claimed by another authorized Essay Grader.

Providing and Submitting Feedback

Once the Essay submitted for Feedback has been claimed, follow the steps below to provide feedback:

  1. In the Boost Dashboard, select the Essay Grading option on the left hand side navigation.
  2. Select the Claimed Reviews column.
  3. Click on the essay you would like to review and provide feedback on.
  4. Select Edit on the top right hand side of the screen.
  5. The essay will appear on the left hand side of the screen. The Essay Grader can review the Essay, Instructions, Essay Prompt and Rubric (if set up). The right hand side contains the Feedback section consisting of Overall Feedback text box and additional Trait Feedback sections (if configured).
  6. Once feedback has been inputted, select:
    1. Save - if you want to save your work and come back to this screen at a later time to continue OR
    2. Save and Submit - if you are ready to submit feedback to the learner. When Save & Submit is chosen, a pop up box appears asking for confirmation.

After feedback has been submitted, the learner will receive a notification.  The submitted essay will appear under the Completed Reviews section.
